Teaching Philosophy

Relationships first. Everything else follows.

Every child is unique, and every child has something to add to the classroom.

Relationships and Regulation

My classroom is built on relationships. I get to know my students, who they are, how they learn, and how they think, so I can scaffold teaching that actually fits them. I rely on strong routines and those relationships to notice the early signs of dysregulation and help a student come back to center before things escalate.

Collaboration with the Team

I spent seven years as a paraeducator before transitioning into a special education teacher. That foundation taught me what every adult in the room contributes, from the classroom teacher to the speech therapist, OT, and social worker. I understand each role from the inside, and I carry that into how I collaborate now: strong, steady teamwork with service providers, with the student at the center.

Belonging and Independence

A good day is one where my students feel safe, encouraged, and appreciated. I want students to use their own hands, make their own choices, and continue to try even when it's hard. Even when it takes longer, the process of learning matters more to me than getting the task done.

Background

Experience and credentials

I spent seven years as a paraeducator across three specialized programs before transitioning into my role as a licensed special education teacher. That time gave me an inside view of every role in the classroom and direct experience with the range of needs those programs are built to serve. I have experience with the Unique Learning System and using the different levels based on how each student learns. I am up for the challenge of a new Mac classroom where multiple programs come together, and I believe the way through is working together.
